How do I create my first Plot Pilot Configuration (PPC)?▼
Open Plot Pilot Config, activate any PPC name from the dropdown menu, press Duplicate button , give it a clear name, and work through Steps 1–7. Choose Prompted options when the user should decide during publishing, or Assigned options when the saved button should run with preset values. Save the PPC when every required step is complete.
How do I edit, duplicate, rename, or delete an existing PPC?▼
Open the PPC in Plot Pilot Config and use the titlebar actions. Edit changes the selected configuration, Duplicate creates a separate copy, Rename changes the PPC name, and Delete removes it after the inline confirmation. Use Save to commit changes; unsaved changes are marked with an asterisk.
How do I assign or edit a PPC ribbon button?▼
In the PPC button settings, choose the button type, two-line label when applicable, tooltip, icon, and spreadsheet-style ribbon position. Full-height buttons use Column A, Column B, and so on. Stacked controls use positions such as Stack Column A1, A2, and A3. Plot Pilot Config remains the final control in the panel.
Why did my ribbon button not appear or update after saving?▼
Save the PPC, then use Reload Ribbon so Revit rebuilds the Plot Pilot panel from the current saved configurations. Confirm that the PPC has a valid button type and position and that no other PPC is occupying the same position. If the ribbon is not available in the current Revit session, restart Revit once and check the saved PPC again.
Step 1 — Why is Plot Pilot still prompting for a Sheet Index?▼
For a fully assigned workflow, select Assigned Sheet Index and choose the intended Revit Sheet List. Review the variation value as well: a prompt-style or wildcard variation can still require a runtime choice. If the saved Sheet List no longer exists in the model, edit the PPC and assign a current list.
Step 2 — Why are the wrong sheets shown, or no sheets available?▼
The sheet scope is evaluated after the Sheet Index and variation. Verify whether the PPC is set to All matching sheets, Prompt for sheets, or Specific assigned sheets. Specific assignments must still exist in the active model, while prompted results depend on the Sheet List and variation resolved in Step 1.
Step 3 — Why is the PDF output location wrong or unavailable?▼
Check whether Location is project-relative, user-selected, or an absolute path. Project-relative output requires a valid saved project path. Confirm that the target folder and network drive are accessible to the current user. Cloud models are not supported as a local project-relative output source, so use a selected or absolute accessible folder instead.
Step 4 — Why is my assigned folder or folder preset missing?▼
Confirm that the PPC is using the intended Assigned or Prompted folder mode. An assigned preset must still exist in the configured presets location. A prompted folder must be present in the PPC bucket or entered during the runtime wizard. Recreate a deleted default preset or select another available folder rule.
Step 5 — How do I fix separate or combined PDF output issues?▼
Review the saved PDF Output mode. Separate creates individual sheet PDFs; combined modes assemble matching sheets according to the configured grouping. Make sure the selected sheets can be exported and that the output folder and naming formula do not produce conflicting file paths.
Step 6 — Why is the PDF name incomplete, invalid, or not using my preset?▼
Open the assigned naming preset and verify the formula order. System, Custom, and Separator variables must be arranged in the desired sequence, and dirty presets must be saved before the PPC uses them. Check custom values for Windows-invalid filename characters and make sure the final formula produces a usable name for every selected sheet or combined set.
Step 7 — Why does the exported PDF appearance not match my settings?▼
Verify whether Processing is set to Show PDF Processing Options or Assigned PDF Processing Options. Review Color, Black Lines, or Grayscale; Vector or Raster processing; raster quality; and the hide options for reference planes, view tags, scope boxes, and crop boundaries. Prompted settings can be changed by the user at runtime, while assigned settings run as saved.
